Family Law Orders / Divorce
What is a Family Law Order (FLO)?
A FLO is a court order that may direct TRS to distribute a portion of a member's retirement benefit to an ex-spouse (Alternate Payee). The FLO must comply with all applicable law and will not become effective until it has been reviewed and approved by TRS.
- TIP: Please read TRS Fact Sheet Family Law Orders to find answers to common questions. If you have additional questions or need assistance, contact TRS during regular business hours.
Each FLO must be submitted on a form provided by TRS. Fillable PDF versions of each FLO are provided below. To determine which form is required, read the descriptions below and download the appropriate form to your computer.
Active (or inactive) TRS member
If the TRS member does not yet receive a monthly retirement benefit, one of the following FLOs will apply:
- FLO 'A' will provide for an actuarially equivalent benefit distribution, payable for the Alternate Payee's lifetime. [Download FLO form A]
- FLO 'B' will provide for a distribution of a fixed amount (not a lifetime benefit) to the Alternate Payee. [Download FLO form B]

- FLO 'C' applies if the retiree elected a Normal Form benefit. [Download FLO form C]
